HOUSTON
-- Tracy McGrady might be back in the Rockets' lineup tonight against the Indiana Pacers.

The Rockets swingman, who has missed the past seven games because of back spasms, could be cleared to play depending on how he feels following the team's shootaround.

McGrady has been practicing with the team since Saturday and hasn't had any setbacks.

Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said before Saturday's game that his team would simply insert McGrady into the lineup when he is ready.

"It's not cautious or not cautious," Van Gundy said. "If the guy is able to play, he plays. If he is not able to play due to injury, he doesn't play. We're not going to risk him, but when he can play, we'll play him."

McGrady would certainly provide the Rockets with a boost after losing Yao Ming. Houston is 2-5 this season without McGrady and struggled last season when Yao and McGrady were out.

Streak Shooter: Luther Head still has a long way to go before making Dana Barros sweat.

Head established a new franchise record last week by sinking a three-pointer in his 26th consecutive game, but he isn't even half way to the NBA record. Barros, a former guard with Boston and Philadelphia, holds that honor at 89 games.

Head said his streak isn't a big deal.

"It doesn't mean anything if we're not winning," Head said. "I just want to make shots to help us win."

Lucas' minutes up: Despite extending the minutes of point guard John Lucas III in recent games, Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy indicated Saturday that the reserve hasn't entrenched himself in the rotation.

Van Gundy said he would mostly play the 5-foot-10 Lucas when he sees a suitable matchup on the floor.

"His role is day to day," Van Gundy said. "He played (against San Antonio) because I thought it was a good matchup against Jacque Vaughn.
